What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific acupoints along the skin of the body involving various methods

How does acupuncture work?

Traditional acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of the flow of Qi (Energy) and Xue (Blood)

through distinct meridians that cover the whole body. No pain if the Qi flow freely. if there is pain,

the Qi is blocked. Acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious Qi flow in the body.

Are there different styles of acupuncture?

What are the other aspects of Chinese Medicine?

Acupuncture is just one branch of traditional Chinese medicine. Some of the others include:

Herbal Medicine, Chinese Diet Therapy, Tui-Na massage, and Qi Gong.

Is it safe?

How deep do the needles go?

Usually needles are inserted between 0.5 to 1.5 inches into the body. This depends on the nature of the problem,

the location of the points, the patient's size, age, and constitution. It also widely varies depending on the style employed by the acupuncturist.

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are fine and flexible, just like human hair. While you may feel some heaviness, distension, tingling, or electric sensations

either around the needle or travelling up or down the affected meridian, this is perfectly normal. In fact, it is called DE QI, and is essential for good results.

How many treatments and how often will I need them?

This depends largely on what is being treated. Usually acute conditions respond much faster while

chronic ailments may require several weeks or longer for treatment.

Depending on the patient's condition and treatment plan, needles usually remain in the patient for 20-30 minutes.

The initial appointment is typically 1 hour and 30 minutes long, to create a treatment plan suitable for you.
